Delivery to construction sites
Sites are not ordinary addresses. There are access restrictions, sign-in procedures and unloading windows. We collect from merchants, deliver to site, and take hire equipment back.
A site is not an ordinary address
Turning up at a construction site with a delivery and no booking is how a van spends an hour at a gate and goes away again. Almost every managed site now runs delivery windows, and most want the vehicle, the driver and the load known in advance.
So the useful things to give us are not the ones you would give a normal courier. The booking reference and the window. Where the gate is, which is often not where the postcode points. Whether there is a banksman, whether the van needs to be escorted, and who is authorised to sign.
Give us that once and it stays on the account rather than being re-explained to a different driver every week. That is most of what makes site delivery work.
Merchant collections and hire returns
Two jobs make up most construction work, and the second is the one nobody plans for.
The first is collection from a builders merchant or supplier and delivery to site — fixings, tools, materials, the thing that was forgotten or the thing that arrived wrong. Collected on your account, delivered into the window.
The second is the return leg. Hire equipment going back, surplus stock returned to the merchant, plant collected at the end of a phase. Hire returns are relentless and unglamorous and they cost real money when they run late, because the hire clock does not stop because nobody had a van free.

How the price works
Distance and vehicle, plus waiting time where a site holds the van beyond an agreed allowance. We will tell you in advance if a site is likely to, because a gate queue on a busy scheme is foreseeable rather than bad luck.
Regular runs between the same merchants and the same sites are priced as standing jobs, which suits a scheme with a predictable rhythm better than quoting every delivery.
Business quotes can be shown excluding VAT, and rates are agreed against your actual pattern of work.

Common questions
Can you deliver inside a booked window?
Yes, and it is how most site work is planned. Give us the booking reference and the window when you place the job and the run is built around it rather than the other way round.
Can you collect from our merchant account?
Yes. Give us the merchant, the account reference and the order number, and the driver collects in your name. It saves your team a trip and the merchant a phone call.
Who signs for the delivery?
Whoever you nominate. Photo proof of delivery comes back with the signature and the name of the person who took it, which matters on a site where several trades are working and a delivery can otherwise disappear.
Can you take hire equipment back?
Yes, and it is worth setting up as a routine rather than a panic. Hire charges run until the equipment is back with the supplier, so a scheduled collection at the end of a phase usually pays for itself.
What if the site cannot take the delivery when we arrive?
Tell us the escalation contact when you set the job up and the driver rings them rather than guessing. Waiting time beyond an agreed allowance is chargeable, and we will always flag it before it starts running rather than after.
