What dedicated means
A dedicated van carries your consignment and nothing else. It goes from your collection point to your delivery point without stopping anywhere in between, without visiting a depot, and without picking up anyone else's freight along the way.
Most courier work is not like this. Network carriers move goods through hubs because sharing the vehicle is what makes the price low. That is the right answer for a box of stationery and the wrong answer for a prototype, a legal file, a load of glass or anything where a second set of handling is a second chance for something to go wrong.
The practical difference is handling count. On a dedicated job your goods are loaded once and unloaded once. On a network job they may be handled six or seven times.
When it is worth the difference in price
When the item is fragile, high-value, irreplaceable or awkward to pack. When the delivery window is tight enough that a hub delay would break it. When the contents are confidential. When you need to know exactly who has it and where it is.
It is also the right call for multi-item moves between business sites, where a network would split the consignment across several deliveries and you would spend the week chasing the missing one.
If none of that applies, we will tell you. A next-day service is cheaper and plenty of jobs do not need a dedicated van.

How the price is worked out
A dedicated job is priced on the round trip, not just your leg of it, because the van is committed to you for the whole journey. That is a minimum charge plus a rate per mile, with the rate set by the vehicle size.
Return legs matter. If we already have a vehicle heading in your direction, the price can be meaningfully better, which is why quotes for the same route vary between operators and between days. It is always worth asking.
Regular dedicated work is usually better handled on an account with agreed rates, rather than quoting each job from scratch.

Common questions
What does "dedicated" actually mean?
Your consignment is the only thing in the van. It is not consolidated with other customers' freight, it does not call at a depot, and it is not moved onto a different vehicle part-way. One driver collects it and the same driver delivers it.
Can I send more than one item, or to more than one address?
Yes to both. The van is yours for the job, so several items travelling together is normal, and multiple drops on one run usually work out cheaper than booking them separately. Give us the addresses in the order you want them done.
Will the driver wait while we load?
A reasonable amount of loading time is expected and included. Where you need the van held for longer — a site waiting on a signature, a job that has to be loaded and returned the same trip — tell us when you book so it is priced in rather than becoming a surprise.
Can you collect outside working hours?
Yes. Booked collections can be at any hour, including overnight and early morning, and enquiries are welcome any time, day or night. For regular out-of-hours work we will put a driver on it.
How do I know it arrived?
Photo proof of delivery and a signature are sent straight to your phone, so you have the time, the place and who took it without having to ring and ask.
